Search Console counts from the day you verify, not the day you launched
It does not backfill. A site that has been live for two years with no verified property has two years of search data that no longer exists anywhere.

Verify a Domain property in Google Search Console today with a single DNS TXT record. Data starts accumulating the moment it is verified and never reaches backwards, so the cheapest day to do this is always the earliest one you have left.
Google Analytics tells you what people did once they arrived. Search Console tells you the thing you actually need: what they typed, what Google showed them, and where you sat in the list. It is free, it takes five minutes, and it is the only source for that data. There is no second one.
The part nobody warns you about is that it starts from zero. Verify it today and the graph begins today. Every day the site has been live without it is a day of query data that Google collected, aged out, and never gave you.
Do the Domain property, not the URL prefix
Search Console offers you two kinds of property and most people click the wrong one because it is on the right-hand side and looks easier.
✗ URL prefix
Covers exactly one address. https://example.com and https://www.example.com are two separate properties, and neither includes your booking subdomain.
✓ Domain
Covers every subdomain and both protocols at once. The one you want, and the only one that needs a DNS record.
The Domain property is the only one that requires DNS verification, which is why people avoid it, and DNS verification is a two-minute job.
The five minutes
- Go to Search Console and add a property. Pick Domain on the left. Type your bare domain with no
https://and nowww. - It hands you a TXT record that starts
google-site-verification=. - In your DNS host, add a TXT record. Name:
@. Value: the whole string it gave you. - Wait a minute, click Verify.
- Submit your sitemap under Sitemaps:
sitemap.xml. This is not optional-but-nice. It is how Google finds pages that nothing links to yet.

Value google-site-verification=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxLeave the TXT record in place forever. Deleting it later unverifies the property and you lose access to the history, though not the history itself.
What you get that you cannot get anywhere else
- Queries. The actual words. Analytics has shown you
(not provided)since 2011. - Impressions. Demand you are visible for and not winning, which is the cheapest kind of traffic to go get.
- Pages Google refuses to index, with the reason written out. Discovered and not indexed, crawled and not indexed, duplicate without canonical. A page in that list is invisible no matter how good it is.
- Who links to you, which is usually a shorter list than owners expect.
Why this one is urgent and the others are not
Most fixes on this site can wait a month and cost you a month. This one compounds. In February you will want to know whether the rewrite you are about to do actually worked, and that question can only be answered against a before-picture that you either started collecting or did not.
Sixteen months is also the most it will ever hold. The window rolls, so the oldest month drops off as each new one arrives, and it does that quietly.
Search Console also keeps only a rolling sixteen months. So it is not only that it starts today — it also quietly forgets. Start it now and keep your own copy once it is running.
While the DNS panel is open, do Bing's too. There is an import button that carries the verification straight across, and that index is what several AI assistants read.
