Do this

Google's Ads Decoded podcast is prompting merchants to holiday-proof their product data now — log into Merchant Center, clear any disapprovals in Diagnostics, and confirm every price is in CAD and matches your landing page.

Google's Ads Decoded podcast just published an episode (2026-08-19) walking through the Merchant Center features worth using as you prep for the holiday season. The episode itself is the signal: if you sell physical products and feed them into Google Shopping, the busy stretch is close enough that a broken or stale feed now costs you exactly when traffic is highest. The source discusses which features to lean on — the specific list is in the episode, so open it for that. What follows is the plain hygiene pass any store can run this afternoon while you're prompted to think about it.

Start where the rejections hide

Products that are disapproved or under review don't show up in Shopping at all. That's the single most common reason a listing you assume is live is invisible — and it tends to pile up quietly between seasons as prices change and stock moves.

  1. Log into Merchant Center (or Merchant Center Next).
  2. Open Products, then the Diagnostics view. Sort by disapproved and then by warnings.
  3. For each disapproval, read the exact issue — Google names it. Usually it's a price mismatch, missing GTIN, a broken image link, or an availability that no longer matches your stock.
  4. Open the affected product's landing page in another tab and compare it line by line to what the feed claims.
  5. Fix at the source (your store platform or feed file), not by hand-editing in Merchant Center — a manual edit gets overwritten the next time your feed syncs.

Price and currency are where Canadian stores trip

The price in your feed has to match the price a shopper sees on the landing page. Set your currency to CAD so you're not accidentally quoting or converting to USD. Alberta gives you one thing to your advantage here: there's no provincial sales tax, just 5% GST, so your tax handling is simpler than a store selling into, say, Ontario or B.C. But how tax should appear in the feed versus at checkout is a settings decision — check Merchant Center's Canada tax documentation for the current expected behaviour rather than guessing.

Time zones

If the episode or any promotion feature quotes a cutoff time, it's likely US/Pacific. Alberta is Mountain — an hour ahead — so translate any deadline before you rely on it.

The quick pass before the rush

A listing that's disapproved in August is a listing that's still invisible in December.

Where doing it yourself stops

This pass works when your feed is small and the problems are one-off. It stops working in two cases. First, if hundreds of SKUs are throwing the same error, that's a feed-integration problem — how Shopify, WooCommerce or your feed app maps your data to Google's fields — and fixing the mapping once beats fixing rows one at a time. Second, the specific holiday features Google recommends in the episode (promotions, seasonal attributes, and so on) each have their own setup; we haven't tested them, and the source doesn't spell out the steps, so listen to the episode and follow Google's own setup pages rather than any secondhand instructions.

Every one of these came out of work we actually did. If you would rather not do it yourself, book a free 30-minute diagnostic and we will tell you which of these your business is losing money to.
